Ömer Faruk Çoruk, 2.5 years old, who fought adrenal gland cancer and then bone marrow cancer at just 1 year of age, held on to life after receiving a bone marrow transplant from his twin brother.

According to a statement from Yeni Yüzyıl University Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital, Çoruk was taken to the hospital in 2018 because of a bruise that appeared on his left eye. He was diagnosed with advanced stage right adrenal gland cancer (neuroblastoma).

Çoruk immediately began treatment, first with a surgical procedure, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and he was cured of the cancer. Just when everyone thought the problems were over, Çoruk was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer (acute myeloid leukemia), and a new treatment process began.

During the screenings for Çoruk's bone marrow transplant, it was determined that he and his identical twin brother, Osman Furkan, had a perfect tissue match.

On April 17, during the pandemic, the little boy received a bone marrow transplant from his twin brother in an operation performed by Pediatric Hematology Specialist Prof. Dr. Barış Malbora.

The Çoruk brothers, who came to the hospital for their final check-ups, began their healthy lives with their families.

In the statement, Mehmet and Nergiz Çoruk shared their joy, saying that their children had spent their time in hospitals from infancy until today and that they were now happy after a period filled with anxiety and worry.
