Prof. Dr. Barış Malbora is an experienced medical doctor specializing in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. Born on August 21, 1977, Dr. Malbora began his medical education at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine between 1994 and 2000.
Following his graduation, he completed his residency in Pediatrics at Başkent University from 2000 to 2005. His specialization thesis during this period was titled "Evaluation of Blood Pressure Parameters by Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring in Healthy School-Age Children with a Family History of Hypertension," conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Esra Baskın.
Dr. Malbora continued his academic career at Başkent University with a sub-specialty fellowship in Pediatric Hematology (2006-2010), completing his thesis on "Investigation of the Relationship Between Serum Leptin Level and Peripheral Hematopoietic Stem Cells in Children" under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Namık Özbek. Additionally, on July 26, 2012, he was board-certified in the sub-specialty of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology by the Medical Specialty Board. Dr. Malbora successfully completed the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation Certification program at Ege University Children's Bone Marrow Transplant Center between December 1, 2016, and November 31, 2017.
Throughout his career, Dr. Malbora has held significant positions at various healthcare institutions, working as a Research Assistant (2000-2005) and a Specialist Physician (2005-2006 at Adana Hospital) at Başkent University Faculty of Medicine. Following his sub-specialty training, he completed his military service at Gülhane Military Medical Academy Haydarpaşa Training and Research Hospital (2010-2011) and served as a Sub-specialist at the Dr. Sami Ulus Children's Health and Diseases Training and Research Hospital's Pediatric Hematology Clinic (for a period between 2011-2014). He received the title of Associate Professor on October 2, 2013, and currently continues his work as a Training Supervisor and Administrative Head at the Tepecik Training and Research Hospital's Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic.
Prof. Dr. Malbora is a member of many prominent scientific organizations, including the Turkish Pediatric Association, the National Pediatric Society, the Turkish Pediatric Hematology Association, the Turkish Society of Hematology, and the Turkish Pediatric Oncology Group.
He has been involved as a principal investigator and researcher in numerous completed academic projects. These projects include topics such as "The Relationship Between Serum Leptin and Adipokine Levels and Hematopoietic Stem Cells in Prepubertal Obese Children" and "The Effects of Zinc Supplementation with Iron Sulfate in the Treatment of Iron Deficiency Anemia in Children." He has also participated in international multi-center clinical trials.
Dr. Malbora has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on various topics, including Nutritional Anemias, Childhood Leukemias, and Hemolytic Anemias, during the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 academic years. He continued to teach on subjects like Hemolytic Anemias, Thalassemia Major, and childhood anemias in subsequent years (2015-2017).
Also known for his scientific work, Dr. Malbora has numerous articles published in internationally peer-reviewed journals (A series) and presentations at international scientific meetings (B series). He has also authored chapters in nationally published books (C series) and has articles published in national peer-reviewed journals (D series). His study titled "Propranolol Treatment in Childhood Hemangiomas: Early Results" was awarded the Best Poster Prize by the Turkish Association for Cancer Research and Control at the XVI. TPOG National Pediatric Cancer Congress. His publications have received over 1100 citations, with an h-index of 19 and an i10-index of 27.
