Raneem Al Muhammed Ali, the youngest daughter of a family of three children who fled the war in Syria and settled in Istanbul, defeated thalassemia, also known as 'Mediterranean Anemia,' with a successful bone marrow transplant in Izmir. Raneem, who regained her health with a compatible marrow from her sister Rayan, is now counting the days to return home. Raneem, the 4.5-year-old daughter of the Syrian couple Meryem and Mahmut Al Muhammed Ali, was diagnosed with thalassemia major when she was just 6 months old. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Malbora, Head of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at S.B.Ü Tepecik Training and Research Hospital, stated that Raneem, who came from Istanbul to Izmir for the transplant, received a fully compatible transplant from her sister.
