Şanlıurfalı Mehmet Örmez gave life to his two younger siblings. Ayşe, the three-year-old second child of the Örmez family, was found to have leukemia after being hospitalized for an infection. Prof. Dr. Barış Malbora searched the Turkish and world stem cell banks for a matching bone marrow for Ayşe but was unsuccessful.
MIRACLE AFTER MIRACLE It was discovered that the bone marrow of her older brother, Mehmet Örmez, was a 100% match. The successful transplant saved Ayşe's life. Around that time, Emel, the newly-delivered mother, also had a baby named Cuma who became ill. A bone marrow search was conducted for one-year-old Cuma in Istanbul, but none was found. A transplant was then performed from his older brother Mehmet. Cuma, who was hospitalized in May, came back to life after the transplant was successful. Prof. Dr. Barış Malbora, a physician at Yeni Yüzyıl University GOP Hospital who performed the bone marrow operations on Ayşe and Cuma, reunited the two healthy siblings with their family.
